One of my friends runs or used to run a small skate shop nearby. It recently went out of business and or my friend got sick of it, I dont exactly know which but anyway he was getting rid of all the merch dirt cheap. SO, im not really a skater by any stretch of the imagination but i thought it would be a neat mini-project to buy up blank decks and mail one out to some artists with strong illustration/paint backgrounds, have them do some sort of NG-themed piece and see what they come up with. Afterwards, they'd package the board back up and mail it over to the NG office where we could hang em up on the wall or something.
Anyway, I bought up the last 5 decks my friend had available, well the last 5 that had no designs on them. 2 are black, one is blue and 2 are white. I'll probably formally introduce this project on my next fp post or i'll have Tom make some sort of small one liner in his next post. If this seems like something youd be interested let me know. I'd like to not make it a contest because I hate competitive shit, in a perfect world, I'd just be able to find 4 competent artists that could do them justice and then make a post in the fall as to what people came up with.
Btw they arent actually as glossy as they seem on the photo. The reason they look that way is because they still have the plastic covering on them. I imagine they are more subdued. Anyway since they are never going to actually be used for skating on Im not terribly concerned about what you use to paint on it, as long as it doesnt degrade heavily over the years.
Okay thats alllllll
