Cool, but a two part 8 meg trailer?

I thought it was pretty cool, pretty impressive camera direction and frame by frame work. The part that bugged me the most is that its a trailer.

You burned yourself out for 8 months on just a trailer.. to me it seems like way too much effort than what its worth... way too much hard work for just giving people a sampling of something. To me it would have been more worthwhile to actually spend the 8 months on the actual movie..
storyline was close to nil, some of the rotoscoping seemed forced, and i cant figure having people sit for an 8 meg download for something that isnt a completed project.

Based on the scores NG has to rate you get high marks on gfx,style,sound,violence etc but overall i think its a little bit disappointing as a whole experience. The user doesnt leave with a sense of satisfaction and you spent so long delivering an experience that isnt a memorable one.
And so overall i can only give it a 5. because i think you've accomplished the first half of what a successful entry should do but your still missing the second.

yes, i agree with you there, normally an animation that takes 8 months would be an actual story and what not. However in my defense for this particular animation it started out as a class assignment where we have to simply show we under stand motion and the aspects of animation. i can't just go and do a whole story when i have 3 other classes going and get them all done AND make an actual episode of something. I doubt I'll have the time to do so in the next 6 months too since I'll be starting portfolio classes and actually make my professional portfolio, so not much time to do this project.

Still I hope to finally deliver the goods eventually and make my series something memorable. If people have been looking at my stuff for this long, its what they deserve.

And thank you for your honesty. Its great to get critiques that I can grow on.

Not bad

My main issue with this movie is the fact that its a collab. It just seemed like there wasnt a need for it and it takes away from the personalization and message that you want YOUR girlfriend to get from it. Unless all of yall are banging the same chick i think it doesnt feel as special as it probably was intended.

That aside, the animation was ok. I was at first annoyed with not seeing the names of the people whom the part belonged to but by the end I didnt mind and in fact i think its cool that you took a chance and let every artists style be the teller of whom the part belonged to. Under that same thought however i think it would have made more sense to pick really different styled artists to accomplish this, its kind of tough at times to tell who did what.

In terms of its theme, i have no problem with it. It's a bit abstract but so is the song so I think that has some leeway.

It was kind of cool to babysit each other through this process, i think we became friends because of this whole pico mess. Anyways good job on it, even if you didnt complete it. I like your agressiveness at fbf, even if some parts arent polished i can totally tell what you wanted to do with it and it makes sense.

I think you should work on your color palette a little bit, seemed a little watered down and its ok to do that if you really have a reason. Didnt see one here so it made the piece a little dry. Anyway good job i shall continue to mentor your other stuff your a talented guy.

refreshing

Hi Manuel,
I always follow your work so i thought it would be only fitting for me to review it.
I liked this flick, you always seem to explore unusual more mature topics and that is quite refreshing in a site obsessed with video game spoofs and lord of the rings handjobs.
I think my only criticism would be to take more sensitivity to your typography. The font you used seemed very haphazard, and unthoughtful. I like the 'plainness' of it but i think there are more 'machined' and corporate fonts out there that you could have used to really stick to your theme of automation and unindividuality.
Animation was fitting and the music was cool.

Wow so you finally emerged from the shadows! Anyways I thought this was quite good, I usually dont dig video game related humor but youre a genius. Man I had forgotten all about blaster master.
What a rediculous storyline indeed, anyhow the animation was sharp as usual, the humor was really edgy and engaging, the sprite use was phenomenal and well even at 7 mins i felt like i still could watch another 7. Good job welcome back and yea dont disappear again.

Not bad

Well, I wasnt sure if I'd like this cause it was gonna be a stick movie.. but atleast you gave your sticks some sort of personality.. and you went through the trouble of adding eyes and lip synch.. well through most of the flick anyway.. the mini game at the end was a nice touch.
I think the one major thing i saw that needed improving was the sound. Either stop getting so close to the mic when you talk or edit the sound a bit in a sound editing program so that it doesnt distort when parts of it become really loud.

Storywise, I hope to see more of the other characters brought into the story.. I kind of felt like I was introduced to all these characters and I ended up seeing only one.

good storyline

I think that your audio and your animation went well together i paticularly liked how when the girl is hit by the car the whole song changes from then on and it just works perfectly on that scene, the audio really makes you feel that somethings gone wrong.
In terms of the technical points, i think that your linework could be cleaned up. Your perspective choices were well chosen and a more delicate handling of the linework would have helped wrap this piece up nicely.

I am personally very proud of how the flashback scenes came out. The artwork isnt that good, i know. Fortunately i improved a bit on that area! Take care

isnt all that moving...

well first off that is one annoying piano solo... my computer speakers were bleeding.
Secondly, I like the voices you used but the way they were delivered were unsuccessful. Particularly that girl, could she sound any more monotonous?
I also agree to some degree with the previous reviewer.. it was piled on so thick that it lost its sentimental value.. i know you were trying to be serious or teach the world an important lesson but its so over the top that I actually found myself wanting the boys legs to snap off as hes running to her.. but no the whole story provides nothing out of the norm, its pure disney channel script and very dull.
Animation-wise, not bad. why did you make the black kid so monstrous looking? ...

Yes, luis you are correct. Just remember. this is very old, i just remade it. To me, the one thing thats important in a film is the story. I need to sit down and think about a new better serious story.

and the black kid its a long story. It was my style, go wtach CHILLIN, i used to draw them like that, it looks cool. Or the bad guys like that. It just looks cool, thats all.

Well it did take you ages but man great job finishing this little gem up. very stylish and well put together, your backgrounds alone make it a beautiful piece. Well I couldnt find anything wrong with it so you get a pat on the back. good job jose.
