I was just ranting about YouTube today to Egoraptor. I'm really frustrated by the amount of stolen Newgrounds content there is on YouTube. I honestly think something needs to be done about it. I've tried to have stuff removed through flagging it as "Stolen", but nothing is ever done about it unless you're reporting pornographic material. Not only is it stealing NG's bread and butter, it's potentially stealing the artists bread and butter. And they don't give a flying fuck.
This has to stop.
well.. im like on the fence about it... in the story that i told... in a way thats how people are able to FIND newgrounds.. like i know many hardcore ng users that found the site through leaked shit on ebaumsworld or albino black sheep... its fucked up for us artists because we want to be in control of our creative efforts (rightfully so) but on the otherhand the internet is like a whole new ballgame.. and in a way you have to like have nerves of steel and know youre diving into a place that has crime and sleeze as well as epic things. I dunno.. i think like having syndication abilities would do wonders.. if i ever had a myspace i'd be stoked to have a little widget that played the review crew pick or something.. or even syndicate my own content on the site. Like maybe a widget where you could make little playlists that are snaggable.. and anytime people went to my myspace they'd be able to see what MY favorite movies are.. i dunno i think thats a more realistic and optimistic approach to the issue than trying to close a pandoras box that will never be closed.

I can imagine a widget would be very much possible, you could just load the swf into a separate swf that plays the movie. Then it could have a "SEE THIS AND MORE AT NEWGROUNDS" button to pull in traffic and make it a worth while investment of traffic. Looking back on how people complained about "Ebuamsworld" stealing content.. YouTube is really 1000 times worse, when you think of it (regardless of it not being just one individual).
I don't know, it's a bit of a pickle really. I personally think Tom needs to give it a try at least. Even just give a few big flash movies widgets, then just monitor the amount of traffic coming off them.
I understand it's a risky investment.
