Refreshing

I gave it high style and graphic marks for the fact that its rare for artists to blatantly use rotoscoping as the centerpiece of the presentation, its quite refreshing and i hope that it inspires others to consider it. The whole roto thing is so contraversial, and i found it quite cool that you took it head on and just said whatever it is what it is.
Nice work I think the presentation and style of animation perfectly suited the humor of Wierd al's song.

I'm not sure why people are down on rotoscoping, I could have done the whole thing in a stylized manner freehand like I did with the turtle and I'd have finished faster and nobody would complain about the look. Rotoscoping is actually harder and takes longer, but I used it because I wanted to make sure that people familiar with the show wouldn't have doubts about what scene was being referenced and because it was an interesting challenge.

Refreshing.

Very creative, at first i was groaning that it would be cheesy, but it was actually quite well executed, you really took the time to make it feel convincing, I only wish that the ending wasnt so anti-climatic. It just sort of abruptly ends for my taste.

I thought the copy paste popup windows were a nice touch and it really complimented the music and the tension.

Nice job, it definately is a breath of fresh air and will hopefully inspire people to do more things like this.

refreshing

Kol always put to rest the idea that tweening is a noob technique. Its kind of amazing the power of the tween nuder the right hands.

pretty good, needs to feel more complete

i think you did a great job animating it, would a preferred to see the whole piece feel more finished, the menu and end screen feel like an afterthought and if youre gonna bust your ass on the animation it makes sense to spend another 20 mins or whatever beautifying the main menu/end screen.

Good job youre a talented guy.

*Im suprised Rudy hasnt found a way to post pictures of his eye in this review.

welcome back

I know how long you've been struggling to get back in the scene, im glad you finally did.

I wasnt sure where you were going with this movie when i first saw it being made.. and i even went as far as telling tommy that your movie wasnt that good.. but you wrapped it up so nicely.. you stuck to your idea and your scenes are all faithful to the mood and everything is very well thoughtout. Originally i was like ugh its one of tims random movies again..

But no, its very dark and erratic. Its sort of creepy in a different way.

God bless your crappy mic... i think that it adds alot of personality and abrasiveness to the movie.. its hard to hear with the distortions just as its hard to make out the movie and its all a nice package complementing each other.

Great job.

Sharp

I really liked the fight scene, the camera angles were very well chosen and interesting, really hope you get that dvd together, i think its great stuff.

Nice work

You've come a long way, congrats on a well deserved daily.

I guess if i could pick one gripe it would be that i wish danny elfmans piece could have played a little bit of a bigger role in your piece. Its a very rich and heavy music track and so i sort of wish that you took advantage of the high octane feel of the audio by having all these mass movies being blammed and such like a real warzone out there just to get a swf through type of thing.

Nice job nonetheless, your interpretation of the portal visually is right on.

Cool, but a two part 8 meg trailer?

I thought it was pretty cool, pretty impressive camera direction and frame by frame work. The part that bugged me the most is that its a trailer.

You burned yourself out for 8 months on just a trailer.. to me it seems like way too much effort than what its worth... way too much hard work for just giving people a sampling of something. To me it would have been more worthwhile to actually spend the 8 months on the actual movie..
storyline was close to nil, some of the rotoscoping seemed forced, and i cant figure having people sit for an 8 meg download for something that isnt a completed project.

Based on the scores NG has to rate you get high marks on gfx, style, sound, violence etc but overall i think its a little bit disappointing as a whole experience. The user doesnt leave with a sense of satisfaction and you spent so long delivering an experience that isnt a memorable one.
And so overall i can only give it a 5. because i think you've accomplished the first half of what a successful entry should do but your still missing the second.

Alamus responds:

yes, i agree with you there, normally an animation that takes 8 months would be an actual story and what not. However in my defense for this particular animation it started out as a class assignment where we have to simply show we under stand motion and the aspects of animation. i can't just go and do a whole story when i have 3 other classes going and get them all done AND make an actual episode of something. I doubt I'll have the time to do so in the next 6 months too since I'll be starting portfolio classes and actually make my professional portfolio, so not much time to do this project.

Still I hope to finally deliver the goods eventually and make my series something memorable. If people have been looking at my stuff for this long, its what they deserve.

And thank you for your honesty. Its great to get critiques that I can grow on.

Thank you.
