havent seen a quality collab in awhile

Great job all of you guys. this was probably the most entertaining of the abstract collabs that i've ever ran into.

I'll have to look into this series for the next one.

Great work shawn and totty and all yalls.

Not bad

My main issue with this movie is the fact that its a collab. It just seemed like there wasnt a need for it and it takes away from the personalization and message that you want YOUR girlfriend to get from it. Unless all of yall are banging the same chick i think it doesnt feel as special as it probably was intended.

That aside, the animation was ok. I was at first annoyed with not seeing the names of the people whom the part belonged to but by the end I didnt mind and in fact i think its cool that you took a chance and let every artists style be the teller of whom the part belonged to. Under that same thought however i think it would have made more sense to pick really different styled artists to accomplish this, its kind of tough at times to tell who did what.

In terms of its theme, i have no problem with it. It's a bit abstract but so is the song so I think that has some leeway.

Kthnx.

Finally jumped on this bandwagon

I'll admit I wasnt really a fan of your work for awhile. Im not really into the fantasy lore like other people and I just struggled to find a bond with your first two movies. It just seemed like such a chore to buy into the fantasy world you painted up.
Sure execution was second to none but it didnt grab me.

This one was a great flick, i think the approach is more entertainment based and so i felt more intruigue and curiosity toward it than the previous brackenwood installments. I actually found myself going to your website to see what the story is on these creatures. So in a way I guess I like to approach a book starting from the end of the book and moving my way forward.
I look forward to more of your work.

Craftwise, you are an inspiration to veteran and novice animators alike. You always push the boundaries of flash technology and your not a bad guy neither ;)
Thanks for all your insight via books, tutorials, forum posts, etc etc. not only are you an elite professional but you also enjoy being in the trenches with the rest of us. Something very very rare of accomplished artists.

Keep up your good work and much success to you, i think your one of the few artists who i can freely say that you truly deserve it.

Promising

It was kind of cool to babysit each other through this process, i think we became friends because of this whole pico mess. Anyways good job on it, even if you didnt complete it. I like your agressiveness at fbf, even if some parts arent polished i can totally tell what you wanted to do with it and it makes sense.

I think you should work on your color palette a little bit, seemed a little watered down and its ok to do that if you really have a reason. Didnt see one here so it made the piece a little dry. Anyway good job i shall continue to mentor your other stuff your a talented guy.

Lalo responds:

thanks, now thats what i call a real review

pretty good

i dont like that you let shmorky's style basically take over the whole look of your recent stuff hence the low style point. but conceptually i think its cool and well executed.

saw this before anyone

For the record i saw this before it was even out. IM SO VIP.

Oh yeah, the movie was pretty good.
Good job Matt!

refreshing as usual

I love how you all are always pushing the boundaries of flash and stop motion ... its a pleasure watching your stuff even when its old. Do you really wear that to bed Gel?

Not bad at all

STORY/THEME REVIEW:
This is the first time actually that ive viewed this series. Its pretty good stuff, even after jumping in deep into the series i felt like i knew what was going on and the episode was strong enough to carry itself. I dont normally like fantasy themed flashes but this one wasnt that cheesy.
Voice acting was pretty good and all characters had their personality... some more than others.. i found the main character a bit monotonous i wish you concentrated a bit more in making him more memorable.. the crow for instance was more memorable than the main char.

On to my review on the technical aspects.

ART/ANIMATION REVIEW:
My main gripe is with the overuse of the blur effect ... particularly when you are switching depths of field and using it as a camera focus effect. It's a great technique but i think its used waay too much here and after seeing it so much it loses its cool factor. Some scenes dont need that so just use restraint. The blur effect causes major laggage so thats also another reason to refrain from over using it.
In regards to the art, i didnt see anything terrible, your camera angles were cool.. proportions correct as well. I would maybe add more in betweens in some areas though.. some parts looked a little choppy... for instance the hair blowing loop, if it had just a pinch more in betweening it could look so fluid.

Good job otherwise. Keep at it.

very creative

When it first started up i thought to myself ok this is probably gonna be really cheesy... but actually it was quite clever.
From an artistic perspective i like how evil the poses of the antagonist were.. his expressions were equally satisfying.

I look forward to more of this series.

Violence never seemed so stylish

I liked this little cartoon.. the song has the perfect blend of trippiness and tree-hugging to be a total opposite of what the cartoon is about and that sort of contradiction really works in my opinion.
I like artists that take chances and do things that are not necessarily what people expect and this piece does that.
I like the styling also, you are slightly trying out new things and the main character has really exagerated proportions and i like that. It sort of adds to how insane he is.
I didnt really like the bird at the end though.. seemed a bit out of place.. its handled in a style different than the main movie (no outlines) and the arrow killing it just didnt have anything to do with the main movie. I think if you just HAD to have the bird there i would have had maybe a headless bird flying around, then it sort of correlates more to the movie and the homicidal tendencies of the main character.
Minor things though, i like your movie and as usual you have all my support.
